Former Bayern Munich midfielder, Owen Hargreaves, has warned Pep Guardiola not to consider bringing Lionel Messi to Barcelona.
Messi’s future in Spain remains uncertain, after he met with new Barca boss Ronald Koeman.
The Argentine superstar is believed to be on Guardiola’s radar ahead of the new season.
But Hargreaves feels Guardiola needs a commanding centre-back like his former captain Vincent Kompany and not Messi.
“I’m sure Pep would take Messi if he could, but he will have seen the impact Van Dijk had at Liverpool and realise he needs that kind of player more than anything.
“He needs the new Vincent Kompany, a leader who can make or break a game in the tight moments,” he told BT Sport.
